Hennessy - A Visit to the Heart of Cognac

Hennessy - A Visit to the Heart of Cognac

Mr Wheeler enjoyed a visit to Hennessy in France where he witnessed beauty, orchestral tools and grounds for creating brilliantly perfected cognac.

In 1765, Richard Hennessey laid the foundation for a company that would become the greatest cognac producer in the world.

The Irish man who came to France to fight with Louise XV, devoted his life to trading some of the best eaux-de-vie and dispatched them all over the world.

Cognac is an area where generations have worked with the vine. On both sides of the Charente, ripen grapes from only the wine growing areas are specially selected by Hennessy to go into the cognacs.

A major part of the production process is the double distillation of the wine, to convert them into eaux-de-vie, the moment when the first characteristic sensations reveal themselves.

Hennessy has been through over seven generations and has been entrusted to the same family of master blenders; the Fillioux family, currently the Yann Fillioux family, heir to the secrets and expertise of his predecessors.

The Hennessy flag can be seen waiving at the top of the building.

Here the Hennessy name has been etched into the brick wall with an emblem of an arm holding an axe; which refers to the Irish tradesman that came to France to fight with Louise XV.
