Montlanc Patron of Art Luciano Pavarotti Limited Edition Fountain Pen

Montlanc Patron of Art Luciano Pavarotti Limited Edition Fountain Pen

Pavarotti, famous for singing 'Nessun dorma', has sang in some of the largest opera houses in the world. He captivated audiences with his performance as the aria 'Nessun dorma' in Puccini’s opera 'Turandot', which took him to the height of his success; creating the highlight for many shows to come. Pavarotti also sang the aria at the New York Central Park in 1993, in front of an incredible 500,000 people; the highest number recorded to attend a classical concert.

To celebrate the opera star, Montblanc have designed and created a fountain pen that portray him and his musical performances. The original inspiration for the writing instrument design were the clothes Pavarotti wore; a black tuxedo, white shirt and white bow tie, which can be seen in the black and white laquer of the Limited Edition 4,810 fountain pen. It was very common for Pavarotti to wear a flamboyant scarf after performances, which is shown as a gold plated scarf shaped clip, wrapped around the cap of the pen - just below the Montblanc emblem made in white precious resin. Five gold plated rings represent five famous operas, and five impressive tiers at the opera house 'Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti' at his home town of Modena, Italy, which was named after him in honour as the great tenor. The tiers of 'Teatro' are engraved on the ring of the cap. Pavarotti had a good luck ritual of searching for a bent nail before performing with follow artists and to feature this, a bent nail has been engraved onto the 750 solid gold fountain pen nib. Last but not least, the cone of the pen has been presented in red lacquer with delicate flower patterns, to represent Luciano Pavarotti's out-going fashion profile - which included exquisite scarves and brightly coloured Hawaiian shirts; which were soon became his trademark dress.
