On 9 September, World Teddy Bear Day celebrates one of the world’s most beloved companions- the teddy bear. More than simply a cherished childhood toy, the teddy bear represents comfort, friendship and treasured memories, with generations of collectors continuing to celebrate these much-loved characters. 

For Steiff, the story holds a particularly special place in history. In 1902, Richard Steiff, nephew of company founder Margarete Steiff, created the legendary “Bear 55PB”, considered the world’s first teddy bear with movable arms and legs. What began as a handcrafted creation went on to become a worldwide sensation and helped establish the teddy bear as an enduring icon.
