Leonardo da Vinci (1452 – 1519) was one of the greatest artists of the Italian Renaissance. Besides being a painter, sculptor and architect, he studied the sciences as an inventor and also pioneered studies of flying. The design of this Montblanc Great Characters limited edition fountain pen is was mainly inspired by the flight studies of Leonardo. The fittings are inspired by Leonardo's studies on the connection of 2 materials. The wheel on the clip refers to the many wheels Leonardo used in his sketches. The 18K solid gold nib is engraved with a bat, which Leonardo studied to construct the flying machine. The cone refers to the transmission double movement very often used by Leonardo. Limitation of 74 in reference to his flight studies of the "Parised Manuskript B" which shows the bat wings on page 74.
