The brand new Montblanc 'M' range has hit our store just recently.  The stylistic and unconventional design of these writing instruments sets new standards with magnetism and the 'plateau' edge.  Marc Newson steps in with innovative plans for his new take for a Montblanc design, and this is no little step with Montblanc's already proud and prestigious ranges of luxury pens.

The plateau edge at the end of the Montblanc M pens is significant in reference to the highland of the Mont Blanc mountain, the largest mountain in the Alps. For the fact hungry, the Alps stretches across eight Alpine countries: Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Slovenia, and Switzerland.

Magnetism eh? Yes, Marc Newson has designed the new Montblanc 'M' range to connect the cap to the barrel of the pen, so that the clip on the cap aligns perfectly with the the plateau presenting the famous Montblanc star logo. As I write I have ballpoint in front of me, so lets test this.  It works! If I put the cap on with the clip aligned less than 90 degrees away from plateau, the magnetism will pull the cap and correctly align the clip.  If the clip of the cap is placed more than 90 degrees away from the aligning up correctly with the plateau the barrel repels the cap.

Other features of this most impressive Montblanc pen are black precious resin, a smooth black shiny black coloured compound. The Montblanc star sits at the top of the cap, representing the snow white peak of the Mont Blanc mountain. The elegant platinum plated clip on the cap which leaves the cap with two thin rails and converge at bottom or middle of the pen look quite striking. The M pens feel quite robust with the magnet / heavy writing hardware, but not to say these are heavy pens; the weight is balanced by a light resin barrel and cap.  The fountain pen features a 14K gold nib, rhodium plated with ruthenium plated inlay. The Artfineliner is another model which is distinct in that it was designed for precise technical and creative drawings, it is able to achieve this by using an extra thin tip.
