Montblanc’s collaboration with UNICEF 2017

Montblanc was founded on a passionate love for writing and a belief in its power to change the world. That is why they partnered with UNICEF in 2004 with the aim of achieving one common goal which is to sustain primary education and literacy programs for children all over the world.

Writing is a key pillar of education and is the foundation for the Montblanc’s 2017 collaboration with UNICEF.

Montblanc pays tribute to UNICEF by aiming to improve learning conditions for over 5 million children around the world; this is done by providing quality learning materials and better teaching facilities.

Montblanc’s collaboration with UNICEF involves a variety of different products including writing instruments, leather accessories and jewellery. For each piece sold in this collection from April 12th 2017 to March 31st 2018; Montblanc will donate 3% of the proceeds to support UNICEF with a minimum amount of $1.5 million guaranteed. The support and partnership is actually investing in the essential foundation of a child’s future in many ways. The UNICEF program could train a teacher on the early childhood development; support the instalment of hygiene facilities within a classroom or for purchasing learning materials such as textbooks, reading books and stationary. Each purchase could contribute to getting children into school and keeping them in school; the main location focuses are China, Djibouti and Brazil.

When UNICEF focussed on Ethiopia for example an estimated 85 percent of primary-school aged children are now enrolled in classes or programmes.

The Collection

So the Montblanc UNICEF collection has been inspired by the Rosetta stone which was carved in 196 B.C. and discovered in Egypt in 1799; providing a key to modern understanding of the Egyptian alphabet. With the stone’s multilingual inscription, the ancient artefact was one of the first signs of international understanding and cooperation.

The entire collection symbolizes a worldwide bond with the six very special written characters; these have been incorporated into the designs. These six characters are the first letters a child learns to write at school in six different languages. These languages include Latin, Arabic, Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Hindi scripts.

Every piece in the collection is made from the finest materials such as precious resin, platinum, ruthenium, rhodium and a variety of Italian sourced leather.

Each writing instruments is adorned with a single blue Sapphire representing the UNICEF charity; each pen is also from the popular Meisterstück range. The leather side of the collection incorporates blue and black Italian cowhide leather; the blue to fit in with the theme throughout the UNICEF range and traditional Montblanc black; sophisticated and elegant. There are small and large pieces within the leather selection. The Men’s accessories collection features two pairs of cufflinks along with a bracelet made from woven leather with stainless steel elements.
