The Guimaraens range of vintage ports was created to meet the rising demand for vintage Fonseca port. The collection is made using the same three Fonseca Quintas and is consistent in style. The port is only released once it has reached maturity which can be up to a decade after the vintage date. This 2004 Guimaraens vintage is a rich ruby colour that glistens in your glass. The strawberry and cassis aromas entice you in to taste the sumptuous liquid. Your palate is met by a delicately spiced port with an intense plum flavour and hints of liquorice. There are undertones of woody notes and mature fruit. This vintage port by Fonseca is designed to be stored on its side at a constant temperature. This bottle can be stored up to 16° Celsius.
This Fonseca port is supplied with a silver-coloured funnel for easy decanting. The wooden branded Fonseca, gift box adds a touch of class to the set making this a lovely present for any special occasion.
When you receive your Fonseca port you may notice what looks to be white chalk marks:
The chalk mark, sometimes known as the splash mark, is a dash of white chalk or paint placed on the side of a bottle of Vintage Port to show in which position it was stored in the Port house's cellar. Bottles of Vintage Port should be stored lying down to keep the cork moist. The chalk mark is placed on the upper side of the bottle. Any sediment which forms in the bottle will, therefore, settle on the side opposite to the chalk mark. This is useful information when decanting a bottle of Vintage Port. If the bottle is held with the white mark uppermost, there is less likelihood of the sediment is disturbed. If there is no white mark, as is often now the case, the bottle should be held with the label uppermost.
