Montblanc: The History of Watches
Montblanc's story of watchmaking began in 1858, which is now the name of one of their most popular watch ranges. Charles-Yvan Robert founded the watch workshop in Villeret, in the Swiss Jura Mountains, unknown to him then that this would become a part of Minerva's historic past. By the 1880's the innovative pocket watches by the manufacturer had built up a reputation and were wound with the crown instead of a traditional winding key.
Montblanc then entered the watchmaking industry in 1997 by building a watch factory, Montblanc Montre S.A., in Le Locle, Switzerland. The company's debut at the Salon de International de Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) in Geneva was focused on the Meisterstück watch, which was inspired by the Meisterstück pen, keeping the same level of luxury and quality. In 2007, Montblanc further enhanced its watchmaking expertise by acquiring the Institut Minerva de Recherche en Haute Horlogerie, which had been crafting exceptional Swiss watches and timepieces since 1858. This acquisition allowed Montblanc to gain the watchmaking knowledge that Minerva had developed over the years.
The Montblanc 1858 collection pays tribute to Minerva’s 165-year legacy in the watchmaking industry. This collection is a remake of the vintage chronograph, blending traditional Swiss movements with contemporary accents. For example, the Montblanc 1858 Automatic Chronograph, is a vintage-inspired chronograph with a gorgeous dial and casework, available in stainless steel and bronze at a price point from £4,200 upwards. Montblanc watches are known for their unmatched craftsmanship, stunning designs, and high quality. The company's philosophy is centered around creating products of the highest quality and craftsmanship, which is evident in the watches' intricate designs and incredible craftsmanship.
Montblanc now offers many different ranges such as the iconic 1858, Heritage, Star Legacy, and Tradition. We stock a selection of Montblanc watches, which you can shop on our website, or get in touch with us if you'd like a particular model.
