Margarete Steiff, the founder of Steiff, was once a remarkable woman. Born in 1847, Margarete fought for her place in the world as a young girl against many odds and became an independent entrepreneur. What started as a pincushion in the shape of a small fabric elephant turned into one of the world’s renowned stuffed animal brands and the creators of the teddy bear. Unfortunately, she passed away in 1909 when she was 61, leaving behind a legacy.

July 2022 marked Margarete’s 175th birthday, which means that Steiff created a wonderful limited edition teddy bear to commemorate this. She wears a double-tied bow and a cameo with the first company logo of 1897. Margarete’s signature and date of birth are detailed and printed on her paw pads. Isn’t she wonderful?
